Oat is a cereal commonly consumed in the form of oatmeal or rolled oats. The popularity of oats has been increasing by days because of its health benefits. Oats for breakfast is a delicious way to add fibre and nutrients to our body first thing in the morning. Great way to start a day is with a warm bowl of oatmeal, which can lower blood cholesterol because of its soluble fibre content.
Oats
are mainly eaten as porridge (sweet or savory).
I was having oats upma for breakfast this morning, when it struck that a laddu with oats may be something different from routine deserts. Wait,
oats laddu? I asked myself. Yes, but with a little twist by adding coconut to
it, making this more interesting.
1 cup quick oats
1 cup grated fresh coconut
½ cup grated jaggery
¼ cup water
8-10 almonds, coarsely chopped
8-10 cashew nuts, broken
a pinch of cardamom powder
1 tsp ghee(clarified butter)
1 cup grated fresh coconut
½ cup grated jaggery
¼ cup water
8-10 almonds, coarsely chopped
8-10 cashew nuts, broken
a pinch of cardamom powder
1 tsp ghee(clarified butter)
Method
- Dry roast oats and pulse in a food processor / mixer just to break them a little (do not make a fine powder).
- Fry the chopped nuts in ghee and set aside.
- Add jaggery, water to a pan and let it simmer until it comes to one-string consistent syrup.
- Now, add grated coconut, oats, mix well and switch of the flame.
- Add nuts, cardamom powder, mix well and let it cool.
- Once the mixture reaches to a temperature that your palm can handle, shape into balls of your desired size.
- These laddus are so simple and quick to make. If you have
unexpected guests at home the next time, try making these laddus to surprise
them.
