Has anybody ever thought, these addictives could be made at home?
One of the snacks we are badly missing in Milan are vegetable puffs. One cold day we were craving for these yummy, flaky puffs and got an idea of making these at home. To my surprise, these are so easy to make at home with the store bought puff pastry sheets.
Ingredients:
2 sheets puff pastry thawed
4 medium sized potatoes (boiled and mashed)
1 medium sized onion chopped
1 green chilli chopped finely (adjust to taste)
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp chat masalafew springs of coriander leaves chopped
salt to taste
2 tsp oil
All purpose floor (as required)
Method:
- Heat oil in a frying pan and add chopped onions.
- Add chopped green chiliies and saute till the onions turn golden brown.
- Now add mashed potato, chilli powder, salt and saute for a minute.
- Switch of the flame and add chat masala, chopped coriander, mix well and set aside.
- Preheat the oven to 220C and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- Sprinkle all purpose floor on to clean platform and spread out the thawed puff pastry sheet
- Slightly roll it out to thin it little and cut into equal sized rectangles (into any shape you wish).
- Place a spoonful of potato filling on one half of the cut rectangle, fold the other half and seal the edges.
- Bake for 10-15 min or until they turn golden brown.
- Let them cool a little and serve warm with a cup hot tea.
Note: Puff pastry sheets are available in freezer sections.
You can add green peas to the filling, can experiment with the filling. You can add eggs, meat or can even make a sweet version. Strawberry turnovers and Blueberry turnovers are my posts for the sweet version.
